PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a production process of active carbon which has noxious gas adsorption performance equivalent to that of coconut shell charcoal and is producedly using organic industrial waste or household garbage as a raw material by a comparatively simple method while eliminating the need of performing activation treatment and, accordingly, at a low raw material cost and a low production cost. SOLUTION: This production process comprises adding an aqueous film- forming inorganic compound to waste such as organic industrial waste or household garbage and subjecting the resulting mixture to carbonization treatment to produce active carbon, wherein as a raw material for the active carbon, household garbage, organic industrial waste such as thinning sawdust., lumbering sawdust, waste mushroom culture medium, beer lees, Shochu (Japanese distilled spirits) waste liquor, house scrap wood sawdust, tree-pruning sawdust, rice hulls, coffee-bean refuse, corn, coconut shells, used paper, pulp, fiber, fibrous waste, bean-curd refuse or domestic animal dung, or the like, can be used and, when such a raw material has a high water content, optionally, the raw material is subjected to dehydration treatment or mixed with sawdust to adjust the water content. |
