PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston ring free from the problem of piston groove wear when used in combination with a piston made of Al-Si type aluminum alloy. SOLUTION: This piston ring has a composition consisting of 0.95-1.10% C, 0.15-0.35% Si, <=0.50% Mn, 1.30-1.60% Cr, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. Further, this piston ring has a phosphate chemical conversion coating all around the periphery of the main body, a hard chromium plating film at least on the outer peripheral sliding face of the main body, and a hard chromium plating film on the outer peripheral sliding face of the main body and also has a phosphate chemical conversion coating on the side face.
