PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide crystalline copolymers which are suited for fabrication into several forms of absorbable biomedical devices including monofilament sutures. SOLUTION: The crystalline, absorbable block/segmented copolymers are the reaction product of a linear prepolymer that is a polyalkylene dicarboxylate of succinic, glutaric, sebatic or adipic acid and either glycolide, 1-lactide, or mixtures thereof. Preferably the prepolymer is preliminarily end-grafted with one or more monomers such as trimethylene carbonate andε-caprolactone.
