PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To impart excellent cleanness to an intake system or a combustion room of a gasoline engine or a diesel engine by adding to a fuel oil a primary amino group-containing ether compound obtained by hydrolysis of an imino group-containing ether compound. SOLUTION: This additive comprises a primary amino group-containing ether compound represented by formula IV, V or VI obtained by hydrolysis of an imino group-containing ether compound represented by formula I, II or III. In the formulae, R1 and R2 are each independently a 1-30C hydrocarbyl group (provided that the sum of the numbers of carbon atoms in R1 and R2 is 5-60); R3 is a 2-20C divalent hydrocarbyl group; X is oxygen atom or sulfur atom; (a) is an integer of 1-10; Z is (A1O),m-H and A1 is 2-18C alkylene; and (m) is 0 or an integer of 1-200 (provided that (m) can be 0 when there are plural Z's and (m) in at least one Z is not 0). The fuel oil additive is added to a fuel oil in an amount of about 0.002-5 wt.%. |
