PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an earthquake detecting method of a door lock device for an earthquake and a rack with a countermeasure for an earthquake using the method, which is capable of obtaining an effect that a ball is moved to a lock position by vibration, and while it is not held in the lock position, lock is ensured. SOLUTION: According to this earthquake detecting method, an advance path for a ball is different from a retreat path, and in the retreat path, load applied to the ball is made large so that the time required for retreatment is made longer than that for advance to detect an earthquake. In the method, corresponding to a shifting of opening and closing waveform of a door or the like from the vibration waveform of an earthquake, the ball is moved to the lock position, and while it is not held in the lock device, lock is ensured, and in releasing, it is not necessary to release from holding (its holding force) so that the release mechanism is simplified.
