PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder cutting-off engine controller which can improve the resting operation responsiveness of an intake valve and an exhaust valve and exhaust gas when a cylinder operation state of a cylinder cutting-off engine switches from a whole cylinder operation to a cylinder resting operation. SOLUTION: This cylinder cutting-off engine controller can switch a cylinder operation state from a whole cylinder operation to a cylinder cutting-off operation by an oil pressure from an oil pump 7. The controller comprises a valve timing switching mechanism which rests an intake valve 4a and an exhaust valve 4b of a cutting-off cylinder 3a, an oil pressure switching mechanism 6 which switches supply and stop of an oil pressure to the valve timing switching mechanism, an oil pressure assist pump 8 for increasing an oil pressure from the oil pump 7, and an ECU 2. When a cylinder cutting-off condition is established, the ECU 2 supplies an oil pressure to the valve timing switching mechanism, thereby stopping the intake valve 4a and the exhaust valve 4b. When both the cylinder cutting-off condition and a pressure increasing condition are established, the ECU executes control of operating the oil pressure assist pump 8.
