The release mechanism comprises a counter-pressure valve mounted in a vessel half-filled with extinguisher fluid and then pressurised with air or nitrogen to 14 bar. The valve comprises a spring-loaded piston, and a drop in pressure beneath the piston causes the valve to open, enabling extinguisher fluid to be released. The pressure drop beneath the piston is caused by connecting the area beneath it to a hose mounted inside the engine room, the opposite end of the hose containing a valve activated by a fire-sensitive device. |
