PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detergent composition, which ensures a good feel to the touch after finishing and also improved softness and compounding stability, by comprising a higher alcohol nonionic surface active agent, a quaternary ammonium salt-type cationic surface active agent, and a carboxyl-modified polysiloxane. SOLUTION: This detergent composition is obtained by compounding 5 to 20 wt.% of a higher alcohol nonionic surface active agent of formula I, 0.5 to 10 wt.% of a quaternary ammonium salt-type cationic surface active agent of formula II having an iodine value of 60 to 100, preferably 70 to 90, 0.05 to 3 wt.% of a carboxyl-modified polysiloxane, and, if necessary, 0.5 to 10 wt.% of a glycol ether solvent. In the formulas, R1 represents 8-22C linear or branched alkyl, alkenyl, arylalkyl or acyl; (n) is 5 to 20; R2 and R3 are each independently 10-24C alkyl or alkenyl; R4 and R5 are each independently methyl or ethyl; X represents a halogen, an alkylsulfate group, aryl or a hydroxyl group; R7 represents linear or branched alkyl, aryl or the like; R8 represents linear or branched oxyalkylene; and (n) is a natural number.
