PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply and surely prevent a workpiece from floating up when the workpiece is held with a vice through mouthpieces by forming plane parts and slopes placed at an angle on their upper parts on the opposite surfaces fitted with the mouthpieces on the fixed side and the moving side of a vice body. SOLUTION: On the opposite surfaces on the fixed side 1 and the moving side 1' of a vice body, place parts 5 and slopes 3 placed at an angle on their upper parts or the like are formed. Respective mouthpieces 2, 2' are contacted with the respective slopes 3 on the fixed side 1 and the moving side 1', and a workpiece is held and fastened between the fixed side 1 and the moving side 1' under the condition of providing gaps on the plane parts 5. Then, the respective mouthpieces 2, 2' are pressed against the respective slopes 3 to be brought down. When the fastening force is further strengthened, the respective mouthpieces 2, 2' are brought down while pressing the workpiece against the reference face, and they are stopped at sticking the plane part 5 to the mouthpieces. Accordingly, the workpiece is stuck to the reference position downward, and fixed at a fixed position also in the lateral direction.
