PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for treating garbage by which the treated material is efficiently deodorized and dried while saving power. SOLUTION: In the garbage treatment device provided with a treating part S for biologically decomposing garbage, a recovery part K for recovering the biologically treated material and a deodorizing and exhausting part D for removing the malodor from the treating part S or recovery part K and exhausting the deodorized gas, the action of a means 25 for heating a heat catalyst provided to the deodorizing and exhausting part D and that of an exhausting means are controlled in linkage with the driving of a rotary agitating claw 30 furnished to a treating tank 20 holding garbage. When the claw 30 is normally rotated or the rotation is changed toward the normal rotation, the heating of the catalyst is reinforced to increase deodorization performance, and, when the claw is stopped or slowly rotated or the rotation is changed toward the slow rotation, the amt. of exhaust is increased to enhance the drying performance.
