<p>PURPOSE: A projection type display device is provided, to improve color reproducibility, to prevent the generation of leak current at a switching device, and to reduce the color shift. CONSTITUTION: The projection type display device comprises: each polarizing plate (20Rp, 20Gp,20Bp) at the light emitting path; three light valves (21R,21G, 21B) which modulates red light, green light and blue light and emits the lights; a color mixing optical device (2) which mixes the light emitted from each light valve; and a polarization changing device which makes the polarization of blue light to be nearly perpendicular to those of the other two lights. Also the projection type display device comprises: each polarizing plate (20Rp, 20Gp, 20Bp) at the light emitting path; three light valves which modulates red light, green light (21R,21G, 21B) and blue light and emits the lights; a color mixing optical device which mixes the light emitted from each light valve; a projection lens (16) which projects the mixed light to the screen (42); and a polarization changing device (2) which changes the polarizations of the lights to make the ratio of the perpendicular light amount to the parallel light amount be nearly equal in all colors.</p> |
