PURPOSE: A method for driving a PDP(Plasma Display Panel) is provided to improve contrast by lowering the background brightness of a screen, to improve reproducibility of color by reducing the mixing rate of color and to display an image stably by improving writing rate of data. CONSTITUTION: A frame is separated into plural subsidiary fields for establishing different maintaining periods to each subsidiary field to display. Therefore, a method for driving a PDP uses a frame time division multiple method. Herein, a preliminary discharge is operated in a first subsidiary field of the frame for forming a space charge. Then, the preliminary discharge is operated in an intermediate subsidiary field for reforming the space charge. Therefore, the lowering of selective writing rate in data caused by disagreement of discharging conditions between cells in the PDP is prevented while improving contrast by reducing background brightness. |
