PURPOSE: An idler arm(1) is provided which is produced as a sheet metal part without cutting and, viewed in cross-section, has a U-shaped profile which is open at the bottom. CONSTITUTION: An upper transverse part of this idler arm (1), in plan view, has a substantially rectangular opening (10) in which is disposed a roller (3) upon which a cam (6) can act. Side parts (8 and 9), which extend downwards from the transverse part (7), accommodate a bolt (5) which is used to mount the roller (3). Upper edges (11 and 12) of the side parts (8 and 9) are convex. The rigidity of a corresponding idler arm (1) is increased in that the vertical extension of the side parts is extended to such a degree that the roller (3) lies completely within this vertical extension of the side parts (8 and 9).
