PURPOSE: A method of determining misfiring is provided to confidently determine misfiring in at least one cylinder of an internal combustion engine. CONSTITUTION: In a method of determining misfiring in an internal combustion engine comprising a plurality of cylinders, for at least one cylinder of the internal combustion engine at least two successive compression times and expansion times are determined, a comparison between the compression time variation and the expansion time variation being carried out to determine misfiring. The result of the comparison is used as a measure of misfiring.
