PURPOSE: A method for the treatment or amelioration of the symptoms of the common cold or allergic rhinitis is provided. CONSTITUTION: The method for the treatment or amelioration of the symptoms of the common cold or allergic rhinitis in a mammal comprises administering to a mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a serotonin 5-HT1F agonist. The method is characterized in that serotonin 5-HT1F is selective for the 5-HT1F receptor relative to other receptors, and the serotonin 5-HT1F agonist is a compound of formula I.
