摘要 <p>PURPOSE: A system and method are provided to reduce the time required to complete a ratio change in a manual, semi-automatic or fully automatic transmission and to achieve synchronous speed by increasing a retarding force acting on engine rotation. CONSTITUTION: A system(10) and method for decreasing the time required to complete a ratio change in an electronically enhanced power trains system include independently controlling at least one engine-side retarding device(32) and at least one transmission-side retarding device(38). The retarding devices(32,38) are selectively actuated to increase the decay rate of the engine speed and/or transmission input shaft speed during an upshift. Engine-side retarding devices include an engine brake(32) or operation of various engine accessories(30,34) to increase engine loading. Transmission-side retarding devices include input shaft brake(38) or drive line retarder.</p>
