PURPOSE: A method for cutting tobacco and its apparatus are provided, to improve the charging property of the cut tobacco. CONSTITUTION: A cake of tobacco(1) is transferred into a mouth(5) to be released from the mouth(5), and the cake of tobacco (1) released from the mouth(5) is cut by a knife cutter(6,7), wherein the cake of tobacco(1) is cut to allow the cross-sectional area cut to be wider in at least one cutting process than that in the other cutting processes. The difference between the cross-sectional areas is preferably above at least 20%, and the widest cross-sectional area is two times as the narrowest.
