PURPOSE: A resin and a pigment composition for coating paper, and a coated paper are provided, which resin composition does not induce the generation of formaldehyde, the increase of viscosity and the deterioration of fluidity. CONSTITUTION: The resin composition comprises (A) the cross-linked amine compound which is prepared from (a) an aliphatic amine and (b) a glycidyl compound containing two or more glycidyl groups per a molecule, or from (a) an aliphatic amine, (b) a glycidyl compound containing two or more glycidyl groups per a molecule, and (c) a compound selected from alpha, beta-unsaturated carbonyl compound, alpha, beta-unsaturated nitryl compound and alpha-halocarboxylic acid; and (B) one or more compounds selected from the group consisting of (b1) non polymeric nonvolatile compounds and (b2) polyalcohols. The pigment comprises the resin composition (A+B), a color (C), and a water binding agent (D).
