摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-sized, thin, light weight and portable information display device by selectively setting a pulse voltage for driving a liquid crystal display element plural kinds settable for at least one pixel. SOLUTION: The fast-forwarding mode of the liquid crystal display element is constituted of a reset period, a selection period and a state maintain period. In a waveform (a), the pulse voltage of 100V is applied, and a liquid crystal is reset in a homeotropic state, and the pulse voltage is not applied in the selection period, and the pulse voltage of 500V is applied in the state maintain period. In this case, the liquid crystal is changed to a focal-conic state to maintain it, and scatters an incident beam. Further, in the waveform (b), the pulse voltage of 100V is applied for 1.5 msec succeedingly the reset to the homeotropic state, the pulse voltage of 50 V is applied in the state maintain period. In this case, the liquid crystal is changed to a planar state to maintain it, and transmits the incident beam through. By selecting the waveforms (a), (b), an binary image of on/off is displayed.
