PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably control pressure in a furnace by reliably detecting the pressure. SOLUTION: Smoke 9 being generated by a fuming device 7 is generated near a sediment exhaust port 1a of an electric furnace 1 through a smoke- guiding pipe 8 and the image of the move of the smoke 9 is picked up by a camera 10. Based on the image information, the vector information of the smoke 9 such as the flow direction of the smoke 9 and its speed is detected. Since the move of the smoke 9 changes according to the pressure in the electric furnace 1, vector information being detected by an image-processing device 11 indicates pressure conditions in the electric furnace 1. Therefore, pressure in the electric furnace 1 is controlled based on the vector information of the smoke 9 and the smoke 9 may be generated near the sediment exhaust port 1a without directly measuring the pressure in the electric furnace 1, thus easily and reliably measuring the pressure in the furnace and hence reliably controlling the pressure in the furnace by performing control based on it.
