PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic disk device for effectively removing the contaminant on the air bearing face of a magnetic head slider. SOLUTION: In an HLU operation, a contaminant removing mechanism 30 is inserted between two opposite magnetic head sliders 22A and 22B. Liquid deposit or solid contaminant is adhered to a synthetic fiber layer 34 provided at the contaminant removing mechanism 30 so that contaminant on the air bearing faces of the magnetic head sliders 22A and 22B can be removed. Also, a vibrating mechanism 40 for vibrating the contaminant removing mechanism 30 is provided. Thus, the contaminant removing mechanism 30 is vibrated in a state that the magnetic head sliders 22A and 22B are brought into contact with the contaminant removing mechanism 30 so that more positive contaminant removal can be attained.
