A device for scanning and digitising an image, or for transferring a digitised image to photosensitive material uses an array 11 of point light sources or detectors. Each source or detector is scanned over a square region 12 of the image or photosensitive material, so that each source or detector exposes or scans only a limited number of pixels, rather than all the pixels. Where an image is being exposed, the point sources are turned on or off in accordance with the motion of the array. The image or photosensitive material may be suspended above the array by air jets.
