PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode for an electron gun capable of realizing a long service life in high current density by ensuring a diffusion path of a reducing element to be particularly included in a base metal to disperse an intermediate layer to smoothly generate a free barium atom in the cathode for the electron gun used for a cathode ray tube. SOLUTION: A cathode for an electron gun comprises a base metal 60 including nickel as major component and at least a kind of a reducing element. The cathode further comprises a upper metal layer 62 which is formed by the particle formed by recrystallization in upper surface of the base metal 60. The cathode furthermore comprises an electron emission material layer 80, formed on an upper portion of the upper metal layer 62, including alkaline earth metal oxide including at least barium. |
