PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten access time by providing an algorithm for inhibiting the recording operation for an offset larger than a write inhibit slice value and a table of write inhibit slice value being set for each track thereby preventing erroneous erasure of adjacent track. SOLUTION: The angleϕbetween the relative moving direction of a magnetic head 5 and a disc 4 and a direction line connecting the element position of the head 5 and the center of rotation of a rotary actuator 6 varies as the head 5 moves from an inner circumferential track 7 to an outer circumferential track 8. Since a skew angle formed on the track varies as the angleϕvaries, erase band becomes asymmetric on the inner and outer circumferential surfaces. Write inhibit slice values are calculated individually for the inner and outer circumferential sides in correspondence therewith and tabulated. When a target recording track is designated from a controller, a write inhibit slice value is set with reference to the table before starting seek operation.
