PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily decide the state of a photosensitive material processing liquid from multi-dimensional analysis values by utilizing Mahanalobis distances. SOLUTION: The Mahanalobis distance is computed (124) and whether the Mahanalobis distance is above the threshold or not is judged (126). The case below the threshold is decided to be normal and the Mahanalobis distance is displayed on a display device. Whether the number (m)of sets of the normal values rises above the prescribed value m0 or not is judged (130). In the case of m>=m0, the data of the characteristic values of the oldest set in the time series is deleted (132) and the Mahanalobis distance is calculated by adding the set of the data of the freshly detected characteristic value, by which the database is updated (134). If the Mahanalobis distance is above the prescribed value, judgment is made that the developer is abnormal and the degree of abnormality is displayed. The cause for the abnormality is then decided (136, 138) and the remedy is decided in accordance with the combination patterns of the cause. The remedy is displayed (140, 142).
