PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable image recording material having good conveyability in heat development, free from unevenness in processing and excellent in suitability to heat development. SOLUTION: The heat developable image recording material is conveyed and heat-developed by bringing the surface of the material on the image forming layer side into contact with a roll, driving the roll, bringing the back side surface into contact with a smooth face and sliding it. The ratio of the coefficient of friction of the surface on the image forming layer side and the roller to that of the back side surface and the smooth face is adjusted to >=1.5.
