A container 40 has an open end surrounded by an outwardly and downwardly extending flange 43. The flange 43 holds in place an attachment ring 49. The ring 49 has attachment means such as threads which engage a complementary formation on a closure 44. The closure has a groove 42 that engages the rim of the container when the closure is tightened, to seal the container. This allows the container to be used for applications in which a conventional can would be used.
