PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a socket for pin grid array(PGA) package and its terminal, capable of being easily assembled with a printed circuit board and the like. SOLUTION: In a socket for pin grid array package, having a base housing 51 equipped with terminals 57 in grid-like formation which is electrically engageable with a lead pin of the PGA package and a slide cover disposed on the upper side of the base housing 51 and equipped with through-holes in grid-like formation allowing the lead pin to pass therethrough, with the slide cover being capable of sliding in a plane parallel to a plate surface of a base housing 51 between a position enabling the lead pin to be inserted by zero insertion force into a terminal mounting part in the base housing 51, through the through-hole and a position electrically engaging a terminal 57 with the lead pin inserted in the terminal mounting part in the base housing 51, the terminals provided in the base housing 51 are adapted to be surface mounted terminals 57 each having a cantilever-like tail piece 81 sticking out obliquely downward from a bottom surface of the base housing 51.
