PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain a reaction between composition of a magnetic tape and a lubricant and to stabilize quality by using a lubricant for coating tape guides having the same material as that of a lubricant used in the magnetic tape. SOLUTION: Since a magnetic tape 10 is wound onto two reels housed within a casing 2 and run from one side of opening 2a to the other side of opening 2b in a magnetic tape cassette 1, tape guides 5 are disposed in the vicinity of the openings 2a, 2b in contact with the back surface side of the magnetic tape 10. In the tape guides 5, hard chromium plating is applied onto the surface of hollow metallic pin consisting of stainless steel, brass or the like, and further a lubricant having the same material as that of a lubricant used in the magnetic tape 10 is coated. A fatty acid based lubricant such as stearic acid and myristic acid, and a fatty acid ester based lubricant such as stearic acid butyle, which are used in the magnetic tape 10, are used as the lubricant, and these lubricants are coated onto the tape guides 5 by a cone barrel treatment.
