PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber which has a bleed function and a check valve function together. SOLUTION: In a shock absorber, having a cylinder 3, a piston rod 4 inserted in the cylinder 3 and at least first/second pistons 5, 6 mounted on the piston rod 4 provided with both check valve function and bleed function capable of a mutual operation, at least one of first/second pistons 5, 6 is inserted in the first space 14 of the cylinder 3 and a different attenuation force is given by the position in the first space 14, in comparison with such case that the piston 5 stays outside the first space 14. Thereby, the bleed function and any check valve function are given together in the second space 15 formed in the piston rod 4 or the bleed function and any check valve function are given together in the second piston 6 operated outside the first space 14.
