PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a fundamental wave single vibration vibrator whose performance can be enhanced by suppressing useless harmonic vibration of the piezoelectric vibrator. SOLUTION: Electrodes 101, 102 of a double rectangular frame shape are placed on a piezoelectric substrate (e.g. crystal, lithium tantalite, lithium niobate, piezoelectric ceramics) 100 with an air gap 103 inbetween, and a lead electrode 104 is connected to the electrode 101 placed at the outside by an electrode pattern. An electrode 105 and a lead electrode 106 are placed on the rear face of the piezoelectric substrate similarly in opposition to those on the surface. Thus, through the adoption of a very simple electrode structure as above, jumping to an overtone mode and jitter having been troubles conventionally can be suppressed. A very stable oscillation output with high purity can be obtained from a piezoelectric oscillator employing the piezoelectric vibrator of this invention. Thus, there is another advantage of not requiring a filter having been used to suppress a useless oscillation output.
