PURPOSE: A method for controlling an audio mode in a TV is provided so that a user can select the audio mode by outputting a predetermined OSD screen when a stereo separation degree of an audio signal received in watching a stereo broadcast is below a predetermined reference strength, or the audio mode can be switched to a mono or stereo mode by referring to an audio mode using history of the user. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling an audio mode in a TV detects the audio mode of a broadcasting signal received to a current signal when a channel is switched, detects a stereo separation degree of the audio signal separated from the broadcasting signal when the detected audio mode is the stereo mode, outputs a stereo-processed audio signal when the detected stereo separation degree is over a reference sensibility, processes the audio signal in a selected audio mode and outputs it by referring to the history data selected by the user in a bad stereo signal receiving state correspondingly to the current channel, date and time, when the detected stereo separation degree is below the reference sensibility, and displays the bad stereo signal receiving state on an OSD screen, switches the audio mode to an audio mode selected by the user, accumulates the selecting number by channel, date and time, and stores it in the history data, thereby improving convenience of the user in selecting the audio mode.
