PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve low cost, simple, and accurate assembling. SOLUTION: A sub-mount to which a laser element is joined is die-bonded to the left side surface of an insulating block 30, and the lower surface of this insulating block 30 is jointed to the reference surface 18 of a package 16. Because the left side surface and the lower surface of the insulating block 30 are formed so that they meet at right angles, when the lower surface is jointed to the reference surface, the left side surface is arranged to be perpendicular to the reference surface 18. Therefore, in order to make the optical axis of the laser light perpendicular to the reference surface 18, it is only necessary to adjust the optical axis of the laser element 48 so that it is perpendicular to the lower surface of the insulating block 30. |
