Piperazinyl heterocyclic compounds of the formula 1, Ar is benzoisothiazolyl or an oxide or dioxide thereof which is optionally substituted, n is 1 or 2, X and Y together with the phenyl to which they are attached form quinolyl, 2-hydroxyquinolyl, benzothiazolyl, 2-aminobenzothiazolyl, benzoisothiazolyl, indazolyl, 2-0hydroxyindazolyl, indolyl, spiro, oxindoyl optionally substituted. These compounds are used for treating psychiatric condition or disorder selected from dementia, dementia of Alzheimer's, anxiety disorders, dyskinesias and behavioral manifestations of mental retardation, conduct disorder and autistic disorder.
