PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an error correcting circuit which has improved radiation resistance. SOLUTION: A syndrome calculating circuit 31 is provided which outputs a syndrome corresponding to a word to be corrected. Error position calculating circuits which receive the syndrome outputted by the syndrome calculating circuit 31 and output the position of an error included in the word to be corrected are provided as many as errors which can be corrected. According to the error position, a correction switching circuit 37 decides the number of errors included actually in the word to be corrected and corrects the errors. The syndrome calculating circuit 31, error position calculating circuits, and error correction switching circuit 37 are all composed of gate circuits. Since a decoder 6 is constituted only by the gate circuits (combinational circuit) and no flip-flop circuits are used, malfunction due to radiation, etc., can be prevented.
