MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS FABRICATING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-density magnetic recording medium having satisfactory floating stability of a magnetic head and excellent magnetic characteristics. SOLUTION: An aluminum alloy metal plate with a nickel-phosphor alloy layer formed on its upper surface is subjected to a mirror-surface treatment and then an electro-etching process. Thereafter, the thus-processed surface is further subjected to texture processing, thereby obtaining a magnetic recording medium substrate. This substrate is further cladded with a cobalt-group magnetic film to obtain a magnetic recording medium. This magnetic recording medium exhibits uniform surface smoothness. The medium further exhibits satisfactory floating stability of a magnetic head and isotropic magnetic characteristics due to the texture processing performed after the electro-etching process.
