372,197. Treatment of slags. SCHOL, C. H., 131, Hauptstrasse, Allendorf, Dillkreis, Germany. Aug. 18, 1931, No. 23221. [Class 22.] Slags &c. are converted into highly porous masses by causing the molten mass to flow over a plane or convex surface over which a comparatively thin layer of water flows. Waterrepelling substances such as bitumen may be emulsified in the water. The product may be cooled and granulated, or it may be cast into moulds while still plastic to form blocks &c., which may have metallic reinforcements. The illustrated apparatus comprises a convex surface lover which water flows from the hollow body 3 while the molten slag is supplied from the pipe 2. Another apparatus comprises a slowly rotating horizontal cylinder, the slag and water being fed on to the uppermost part of the periphery.
|
