PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an array waveguide diffraction grating type optical multiplexer/demultiplexer having excellent wavelength flatness in a pass wavelength band. SOLUTION: This array waveguide diffraction grating type optical multiplexer/demultiplexer is constituted by connecting the end face 3b of an input side slab waveguide 3 and the end face 5a of an output side slag waveguide 5 by array waveguide diffraction gratings 4 consisting of a plurality of channel waveguides 4a, connecting one or a plurality of input waveguides 2 to the other end face 3a of the input side slab waveguide 3 and connecting one or a plurality of output waveguides 6 to the other end face 5b of the output side slag waveguide 5 as well. The focal length F2 of the output side slag waveguide 5 is made longer than the focal length F1 of the input side slab waveguide 3.
