PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the light emitting intensity of a side light type surface light source, which is used for a liquid crystal display back light, uniform and to manufacture the light source inexpensively. SOLUTION: The surface light source is provided with a light transmission plate 10 which emits the light beams, that are made incident from a side end incident surface 11, from a light emitting surface 15 formed in a planar manner and a light source which makes light beams incident on the surface 11 of the plate 10. The light source has light emitting diodes 5. The surface 11 of the plate 10, on which the light beams from the diodes 5 are made incident, is integrally constituted with plural lens shaped protrusions having fluorescent material that converts the wavelength of the light beams made incident from the diodes 5. The light beams, which are made incident into the surface 11, are diffused by the protrusions, collide with the fluorescent material in the diffusion process and outputted from an output surface in an arbitrary emitting color. |
