PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic focusing controller and an automatic focusing control method by which a stable focusing action can be applied even to an object including a high luminance component without being affected by disturbance such as noise. SOLUTION: A digital camera to which the automatic focusing controller is applied is provided with an A/D converter 104 converting image data whose image is picked up to digital image data, a matrix circuit 105 converting the digital image data to luminance data, a binarization circuit 107 comparing the luminance data with a luminance threshold value and converting it to binarized data, a counting circuit 108 counting the number of times that a state is inverted between adjacent pixels by scanning the binarized data in a raster direction and calculating a counted value, a CPU 109 deciding a lens position where the counted value becomes the maximum out of the respective lens positions as the focusing point and a driving device 102 moving a lens to the decided focusing point. |
