PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a practical Galois field operation processor which can operate fast with a simple constitution and can process all decoding processes including the Reed Solomon decoding. SOLUTION: The operation unit 30 has an instruction decoder 1 and at least a Galois field vector adder 31 and a Galois field vector multiplier 32, and performs Galois field operation for a 1st and a 2nd operand. The operation unit 30 is further equipped with an exponent-vector converting circuit 22 which converts the 2nd operand from an exponent representation into a vector representation, and has an instruction performing Galois field operation for the 1st operated in the vector representation and the 2nd operand in the exponent representation.
