Class 100(4) A typewriter in which characters are formed by a series of dots has ferro-magnetic printing members each having an exciting coil selectively energizable to oscillate the member magnetostrictively at its natural resonant frequency to effect printing. A printing head 1 has rods 2 fastened at their nodal points to a support 5 and carrying exciting coils 3 which when energized cause the rods 2 to oscillate into and out of holes 4 to effect impression. In a modified form the wires are replaced by sheet metal plates forming a closed magnetic circuit and provided with a lug to cause an impression. |
