PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the instrument which can measure the length of a pipe automatically with precision. SOLUTION: Laser light A emitted by a laser distance meter 8 passes through the shaft of a face plate 6 and is reflected to its incidence direction by a corner cube mirror 5 set on an end surface jig 4 for a fixed-side pipe to impinge on the laser distance meter 8 again. Thus, the distance L1 to the corner cube mirror 5 installed on the pipe end surface on a side close to the laser distance meter 8, i.e., the fixed side is measured. Then the end surface jig 4 set on the fixed-side end surface is removed to allow the laser light A to reach a movement-side end surface and the light is reflected by a corner cube mirror 5 provided on a movement-side end surface jig 4, to that the distance L2 to the movement-side corner cube mirror 5 is measured. The pipe length is calculated from those measurement values.
