PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide for improvement of working efficiency an electronic component mounting apparatus and method, that can reduce the frequency of stopping for the apparatus, when component shortage condition occurs. SOLUTION: In an electronic component mounting apparatus for picking up electronic components with a shifting head 13 from a supply part 16 and then shifting the components to a substrate 12, a plurality of feeder bases 17 are provided in the supply part 16 to freely load and unload a tape feeder 18 for supplying the electronic components to a pickup position, and a guide rail 21 and a cylinder 20 are also provided to individually extract the feeder base 17 up to the electronic components supply position. Thereby, if component shortage condition occurs, only the feeder base 17 loading the tape feeder 18 needs to be extracted to the electronic component supply position. Thereby mounting work can be continued with the tape feeder 18 of the other feeder base 17, and the frequency of operation stops of the apparatus can be reduced. |
