372,247. Protecting boot &c. uppers during lasting &c. ETABLISSEMENTS R. SCHNEIDER, 17, Rue Cadet, Paris, and POELMAN, A., 12, Rue Damalix, St. Maurice, Seine, both in France. Dec. 2, 1931, No. 33407. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1930. [Cla.ss 17 (ii).] A process for protecting leather, skin, imitation leather, fabric, &c. during manipulation or making up into boots, shoes, &c. consists in first treating the material with a coagulant for rubber latex, and then applying latex to form a slightly adherent film which is subsequently removed. For example, a dilute solution of acetic acid is sprayed on to leather, after which rubber latex is sprayed on. The latter coagulates and forms a continuous film. Dilute phosphoric acid, calcium chloride solution, salts of tribasic acids, or other coagulants may be used. The film may be further coated with varnish, e.g. a cellulose varnish, or a varnish having a base of natural or synthetic resin. The protective coating may be applied to boot uppers, for instance, after sewing or after lasting. Specification 344,453 is referred to.
