PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a duplicated finger print from being abused by giving a function of discriminating the duplicated finger print from the finger print of living body to a finger print collating device. SOLUTION: This finger print collating device 11 is composed of a finger print collating and discriminating section 12 and a living body detecting section 13. The section 12 collects the finger print data of a finger placed on a prism 15 and comparatively collates the collected data with registered finger print data. The detecting section 13 is composed of an oscillating section 20, an electrode section 22, a detecting section 23, and a discriminating section 24. The electrode section 22 is constituted in such a way that the section 22 constitutes a resonance circuit when the finger is plated on electrodes 21a and 21b arranged on the surface of the prism 15 and, when the finger is that of a living body, can make impedance matching. Therefore, when a high-frequency signal is sent to the electrode section 22 from the oscillating section 20 and the level of the reflected wave reflected from the electrode section 2 is detected by means of the detecting section 23, the discriminating section 24 discriminates whether the placed finger is that of a living body or a duplicated finger. When the finger is discriminated as that of the living body and the finger print data coincide with the registers data, the finger print is discriminated as that of a registerer.
