Needleless syringe, flow from gas capsule initially towards rear of syringe

A needleless syringe 2 includes a capsule 8 which contains gas under pressure for propelling a medicament contained at 10 out of nozzle 4 and through the skin of a patient. The gas capsule has a frangible section 16, which releases the gas from the capsule when broken. The gas initially is ejected from the capsule in a direction towards the rear of the syringe, and away from the nozzle 4. The gas then flows around the sides of the capsule, through holes in partition 18 to propel the medicament from nozzle 4. The frangible section may be broken by pushing a button 30. A pin 36 prevents the button from being accidentally pressed.
