PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a lead-acid battery which enables effective suppression in the reduction of an electrolytic solution over a long period of charging and discharging, without reducing initial performance and lifetime performance. SOLUTION: In this lead-acid battery, a positive electrode current collector lead alloy contains a metal, capable of reducing a hydrogen overvoltage of a negative electrode on a surface of the negative electrode, such as Sb, Cu, Ni or the like. In this battery, vanillin coated with acetylene black is added into a negative electrode active material. Thereby, the influence on the lifetime performance and initial performance at formation can be avoided, loss of vanillin by oxidation on a surface of a positive electrode material is suppressed, and reduction of an electrolytic solution is suppressed over a long period.
