PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the operating efficiency of a storage device by storing one or more received image signals, forming an image on the basis of the received image signal or the image signal stored in a storage means, calculating a capacity of a storage area not in use in a secondary storage section and assigning image data to areas of the storage section accordingly. SOLUTION: A control method for an image memory is decided to check an operating state of 1st and 2nd storage devices 700a, 700b of the image memory. In the case that at least one of the 1st and 2nd storage devices 700a, 700b is in use, the processing is terminated as it is. When the both are not in use, the storage capacity not in use in the 1st and 2nd storage devices 700a, 700b is checked and assigning addresses of both the 1st and 2nd storage devices 700a, 700b is decided. In this assignment, first the storage capacities not in use (M1), (M2) in the 1st and 2nd storage devices 700a, 700b are obtained. When the (M1) is larger, the data are assigned to the 1st and storage device 700a, and when the (M2) is larger, the data are assigned to the 2nd and storage device 700b.
