A composite building material comprising a core material and, formed on the plane of at least one side thereof, a composite layer comprising a fiber substrate and a resin, characterized in that the core material comprises an inorganic noncrystalline substance and the inorganic noncrystalline substanc e comprises a fibrous substance. The composite building material has excellent strength and can be driven with a nail or the like without occurrence of cracking.
